WATERMELON AND TOMATO JUICE
(Spain, 4 servings, summer season, 20 minuts)
UTENSILS
1 chef’s knife
1 electric beater
1 colander
1 mixing bowl
INGREDIENTS
1 watermelon
3 medium-sized tomatoes
Olive oil
Salt
PREPARATION
First of all, remove the seeds from the watermelon and cut into chunks. Next, peel and chop the tomatoes and also remove the seeds. Crush and mix the watermelon and tomatoes.
Finally, add olive oil and a pinch of salt.
PRESENTATION
Serve cold accompanied by small pieces of watermelon.
KID’S PARTICIPATION
It is suggested, but always at he discretion of parent or responsible adult and depending on the child’s age, that they participate by removing the seeds, mixing the watermelon with tomatoes and serving in large glasses to collaborate with the final presentation.
NUTRITIONAL AND CULTURAL CURIOSITIES
The watermelon is one of the largest fruits that exists and it can reach up to 10kg in weight. The watermelon is the fruit which contains the most water (93%), so its caloric value is very low. It’s a very refreshing fruit and has a delicious sweet taste.
The origin of watermelon is situated in tropical African countries and has been cultivated for centuries on the banks of the Nile, from where is spread to many regions bordered by the Mediterranean sea. European settlers took the watermelon to America, where its cultivation spread throughout the continent. Today, it’s one of the most widespread fruits in the world.
USEFUL TIP
To peel the tomatoes easier, previously blanch them in boiling water. Then let them cool.
